Durga Temple, Aihole

Spread the love

Another gem of Chalukya Hindu temple architecture.

It is apsidal in plan as is in typical Budhist Chaitya vihars. A pillared corridor runs around the temple, enveloping the sanctum sanctorum and the main hall facing it.

There are beautiful carvings all around the temple.

This seems another experiment in Vesara style of Hindu temple architecture by the master builders of Chalukya dynasty.

Aihole is 35 kilometers from Badami.
