Lord Narasimha is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, according to Hindu mythology.

The message of this Avatar is that the God shall always protect his devotee and wrong doers shall be punished in a befitting manner.

Legend is little Prahlada, son of Hiranuakasipu- the demon king and an ardent lord Vishnu traitor, was an ardent Lord Vishnu bhaktha. His father tried every thing within his means to transform his son to a Lord Vishnu traitor, but failed.

The demon king Hirayanakasipu had many boons from Lord Brahma. He cannot be killed by man or animal, inside or outside a building, day or night, with a weapon either living or inanimate. With these boons he terrorised the world and tortured Lord Vishnu devotees in many ways.

He could not tolerate his own son becoming Lord Vishnu devotee. So he summoned his son to the Royal court and asked his son Prahlada to show his Lord Vishnu. The little Prahlada replied that his Lord can be seen everywhere. An angry Hiranyakasipu ordered to show the God on a pillar at the hall.

Little Prahlada prayed fervently and to the surprise of all present, Lord Narasimha appeared breaking the pillar.

Lord Vishnu descended as an anthropomorphic incarnation, with the body of a man and head and claws of a lion. He then disemboweled Hiranyakasipu at the courtyard threshold of his house, at dusk, with his claws, while he lay on his thigh. Thus Lord Narasimha killed the demon King abiding all his boon rules.

Although a powerful and well-known avatar of Lord Vishnu, the worship of Lord Narasimha in idol form is not that popular. There are only few famous temples to Lord Narasimha in the country.

But his worship is popular in Andhrapradesh and we can call Andhrapradesh as ”Land of Narasimha”. The most famous among them is Sri Varaha Narasimha temple at Simhachalam, near Visakhapattanam.
