Ramaswamy (Lord Sri Ram) Temple, Kumbakonam

Spread the love

The main attraction of this temple is the beautiful of paintings of Ramayana scenes, spread across the temple.

Built by Raghunath Nayak of Nayak dynasty. He ruled from 1614 – 1640 AD. Legend is that he had a vision to dig a tank near Darasuram. When he dug it, he got an idol of Lord Sri Ram in Pattabhisheka (coronation ceremony) posture. So he built this temple and installed that idol here.

It may be noted that worship of Lord Sri Ram, along with all his brothers, wife Sita and Hanuman in the same sanctum sanctorum is a rare one.

The temple is within the Kumbakonam city limits.
