A famous abode of Lord Vishnu in Goa and also one of the five important temples of Gowda Saraswata Brhamins of the region.

Legend is that Lord Sriram consecrated this temple on his return from Sri Lanka after killing the demon Ravan.

The temple is not on the original site now following destruction of the original temple by the Portuguese rulers in the sixteenth century AD.

This temple also has sub-shrines to other popular deities of Goddess Shantala and Goddess Kamakshi.
