The temple on the Suryapahar hill was an important centre of Pragjyotish pura’s (Assam) astrological tradition.
The sanctum sanctorum has a central figure and twelve other miniature figures in a seated posture. The centre figure represents the sage Kasyapa- the father of Surya; twelve miniature figures around him represent Surya- the Sun god.
The famous Hindu temple complex, rich in sculptures, has ruins of many other old temples scattered all over the area.
The Goalpara town is 12 kilometers away. The temple is near to Guwahati.
