Vatapi Ganapati Temple, Nannilam

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. But it became famous after the Ganesha shrine near to the Shiva shrine.

This Ganesh is known s Vatapi Ganapati. It became popular after the famous carnatic lyric of Muthuswami Dikshithar “Vatapiganapathim bhaje” in Hamsadhwani raga.

The idol of the Vatapi Ganapati is taken from its original place in Badami, Karnataka as a war memento a Pallava dynasty general in Seventh century AD.

Temple is locally known as Tiruchenkaangudi.

It is near to Kumbakonam.
