Lord Vishnu killed the demon Jwarasura (by taking the form of Hayagreeva; the man-lion form or Narasimha) here at Munikuta parvat. He also took a dip in the nearby lake to refresh thereafter.

The lake is now known as Apunarbhava. It is believed, having a dip in this holy lake relieves a person from the second birth.

The Hindu temple has many interesting sculptures which depict Lord Budha as part of Dasavathara of Lord Vishnu.

The structure of the present temple dates back to 16nth century.

The temple is on the Monikut hill in Hajo village near Guwahati.
