Vishwanath Temple, Uttarkashi

A well-visited temple of the region.

Legend is Lord Shiva considers this as his aboard from the second part of the Kaliyuga. Belief is that at that time Kashi or Varanasi will be submerged under water and Lord Kashi Vishwanath shall shift to this temple.

Idol is said to be conseccrated by sage Parasuram; the present structure dates back to 1857 AD.

Temple is on the bank of river Bhagirathi (Ganga)

Its about 154 kilometers from Rishikesh enroute Gangotri.
